buzz worthy: TWELVE

It is all about want. No one needs anything here. It is about when you wake up in the morning and the snow is already coming down and its bright between the buildings where the sun falls. But already dark where the shadows are. And its all about want. What do you want? Because if you don't want something you got nothing. You are a drift. You're washed away and then buried under the snows and shadows. And when in the spring the snow melts, no one will remember where you were frozen and buried. And you will no longer be anywhere. These were the lines that struck me most while watching the movie, TWELVE.

Directed by Joel Schumacher, this film talks about drug addiction, violence, sex and all vices there is in a life of a wealthy teenager plus their own family drama and teen angst. It stars Chace Crawford as White Mike who once was a wealthy teenager but now struggling to earn a living by being a drug dealer. Also stars 50 Cent, Emma Roberts, Philip Ettinger, Emily Meade and Kiefer Sutherland as the film's narrator (whom I didn't recognize his voice until I research about this film). All the actors did a great job in portraying their different characters bringing the 'lifestyles of the rich and the famous' to life. Why the title TWELVE? It is because of the name of the addictive drug cocktail, Twelve, in which the movie revolves around wherein White Mike's cousin tried to sell it around town and then gets killed, and one of rich young girl will do anything even giving up her virginity to have a another taste of it. Better not to spoil the movie plot here, go watch it yourself :D

Twelve was released August of last year and I just watched it only recently. I do have a lot of movie marathons to follow. What interest me in this movie is the way the characters were presented and how each of their lives are intertwined with each other. The storyline is quite interesting. Yes, it does have that typical gun shooting and killing since it involves drugs so its not good for types of audiences, children beware. Watch the climax at the end where it all boils down to a shooting spree. Who gets killed and who doesn't? That's for you to find out.

halloween movie pick: COMING SOON

Coming Soon is a Thai horror film which stars Singer Worrakarn Punch Rotjanawatchra, Sakulrath Thomas, and Chantavit Dhanasevi, in the directorial debut for Sophon Sakdaphisit, co-writer of Thai films "Shutter" and "Alone" (credits to wikipedia for this and the movie poster, ang hirap kasi ng mga pangalan nila).

Angels and Demons

I had this dilemma of reading the book first before watching its film adaptation or the movie first before the book. We all know Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code and when it hit the market a few years back, I first read the book before watching the movie and the film is quite good than the book.

So I was hoping for the same effect on its second installment which is actually its prequel, Angels and Demon. It took me a year to actually finished the book (that is why I am only making this post now) because I was preoccupied in juggling different matters and endure the temptation of not watching the movie when everyone else already saw it, only to be disappointed. The film did not give that much justice to the book, believe me.

There are lot of differences between the two. Certain characters were not present or they were change to a different one. Also, the storyline differs to somehow fit the entire book into a 2-hour or more film. Its much better to read the book first before watching the movie. But both, movie and book, gives the same fast-paced, heart-pounding mystery equipped with conspiracy theories and the 'science versus religion clash' that will keep you awed and interested until the very end. That's the Dan Brown bestseller.

Thor and Fast Five

thursday is THORsday

i was hesitant to watch thor on the big screen because of the bad reviews that I read about it and the "Ok lang" comments of my friends who already watched it. last thursday, right after my shift, my officemates decided that its thorsday and since its the end of my work week, i did tag along which has almost been a ritual na gumala tuwing katapusan ng work week ko. so here's m
y take on thor.

movie plot. thor see
ms to be an alien (what i recall is that he is a norse god) because he lives on outer space which is not really a planet but as what he calls it, a realm. the first part of the film shows the life of thor, where he came from, where he live, his family and friends, and all stuff about him as well as their long time enemy. he was then banished to earth in where he falls in love with jane played by natalie portman, an astrologer (yata) or a scientist. then story progress on and ends (watch the movie para ma-enjoy ninyo din).

my two cents. this movie already got me at its superb special effects/graphics/animation. solb ka na sa ganda ng mga shots dito specially the asgard which makes it a really nice place to live in. also, beware of the makabasag-eardrum sound effects pag hinahampas ni thor ang kanyang hammer. they said that the movie concentrated on the love story of thor but it wasn't till half of the movie when their love story was presented, the first half was all about thor's origin. on with the actors. i never really know who chris hemsworth is because i haven't seen him in any movie or tv series but he was good in being a god. it suits him well as well as the other soldier friends of his. did really laugh hard at "we have xena, jackie chan and robin hood" line. also, i never knew that hannibal lecter (anthony hopkins) can also be a supreme god. he did fit the wise old supreme leader, odin. natalie portman also looks good as the damsel in distress leading lady. overall the movie was great and i would rate it as 9 out of 10.

fast 5 saturday

adrenaline rush, action packed scenes, wild car chase and an all star cast. this it what the fast five movie is al
l about.

movie plot. i really wasn't paying attention to the story but here how i think it goes. brian (paul walker) and mia (jordana brewster) were hired to carjack a train (may word bang "trainjack" kasi they steal the car from the train) wherein they met dom (vin diesel) and the plan took a different turn. feds were killed and the three were the prime suspect. they had been wanted by dwayne johnson, an fbi agent who is also the head of an elite group. it was then revealed that the cars owner is reyes who is a big drug lord in rio. dom organize a crew to steal reyes' money to get back at him and the story goes on. watch it also on the big screen to get your adrenaline pumping :D

my two cents. another 'fast and the furious' franchise that never lets you down. it literally let me hold on to my seat during the train scene, awesome! also, putting back the cast from all 4 previous franchise was great. i do wish i have a crew like that wherein stealing is a piece of cake, hehe.. if you are an adrenaline junkie or those who are obsessed over cars or just wanted to see a great action movie, then this ones for you. overall, i'll give it 9 out of 10 also.

Source Code

"what would you do if you have a few minutes to live?"
"i would make the most out of it."

those were the lines that struck me most in the movie, source code, another sci-fi movie that i recommend if you want a little brain exercise as you figure out the story of this film, how was it possible and what the hell is this movie about.

movie plot:
the movie starts with jake gyllenhaal, who plays the lead actor colter stevens, waking up on a train not knowing who's he with or what he's doing there. as he tries to find out what is going on, a bomb exploded that kills him and everyone on the train. he then wakes up on an enclosed space with a little monitor showing a lady in uniform (goodwin played by vera farmiga) telling him to breath and be calm. once he's stabilize, goodwin ask what happened on the bus and did he find the bomb and the bomber. then came the realization that he is on a mission to find the bomb as well as the bomber on that recent train explosion which is a first of a series of bombing so as to stop the next explosion from blowing off. this was made possible by 'souce code' which is a program design by dr. rutledge that enables a man to relieve the last 8 minutes of a dead person by connecting blah blah blah (*science stuff*) which really makes it look possible in the near future, i hope so. this means that stevens is dead and he is only accessing sean's last 8 minutes of memory before he died in the train explosion.

my take on the film:
another mind-boggling film that will keep your brain cells busy in processing details on what really is happening on this film. i never had been this clueless since the inception movie. special effects and graphics are great as usual and actors play their part well. been a fan of jake gyllenhaal since the bubble boy and thought he's a great comedy actor but he does this action/suspense film well. kudos to the whole crew for this film.

best watched after taking board exams or final quizzes (to forget all those crazy questions that you answered blank) :D

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

buzz worthy: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
i was looking forward to watch this film when i first saw its trailer. but then i heard that it will not be shown in the Philippines because it did not do good on the US charts. so when i was able to get a copy of it, i then watched it and then poof, it became coco puffs, just kidding. here's my take on this film.

movie plot
the story is about a scott pilgrim (as what the title suggest), a 23 y/o band member who is dating a 17 y/o high school girl, knives. he then meets the girl of his dreams, ramona, and thus complications exists. to date ramona, scott must defeat all 7 evil exes who control ramona's lovelife.  that begins the video game battle and music inspired scenes which i really find awesome.

what i liked about this film?
 - music and video game combined! no need to say more..
 - great actors. michael cera plays scott pilgrim who does tell the puchlines seriously as if he's not kidding. there's some familiar actors here that i recognize such as johnny simmons who plays scott's bandmate, anna kendrick who plays scott's sister, mary elizabeth winstead as ramona, cris evans as one of the evil exes, brandon routh as another evil exes.
 - the storyline. it maybe the traditional love triangle story but what makes it different from others is the way it is presented, its a fast paced storyline filled with lots of eye popping graphics making you stuck to the screen.
 - the special effects/graphics. awesome! it really amazed me specially on the battle scene ala video game on an arcade versus mode.

i would recommend this film for gamers and music lovers, for young and those young at heart, and to all those who want to be, i do not know. just watch it and see :D

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

im really not a harry potter fanatic but since the first movie amazed me with its weird and magical world of wizardry, i crave to watch the sequel, the third film and look forward to watch all of its franchise. i haven't read all the books yet due to priorities and time constraint, hehehe.. but one day i will :D

here's my take on the most recent harry potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

 - the story is incomplete :D (hence this is only part one and you will be craving to watch the last installment just like me)
 - special effects and computer graphics, as always, are superb. local films doesn't even come close to it. loved the part were they all transform into harry.

 - i also agree that the film is much scary and it doesn't seem to be child-friendly anymore, more of a teen pop flick. nevertheless, the dark and eerie setting makes it more like a suspense/thriller movie which is my fave genre and this adds more drama and emotion to the film.
 - great actors played their part well, i really like how bad ass helena bonham carter is. this harry potter franchise also let us watched how daniel radcliff and the others grew up literally and evolve. i remember seeing the first film where they were all small like toddlers from a crib :)
 - overall, i would give it 8 out of 10. hope you enjoyed watching it too..

Grown Ups

"play life just like you play that game today so when that final buzzer of life goes off, you'll have no regrets" - Coach Buzzer.
GROWN UPS, a hilarious comedy film about friends, family and life.

the movie started when five friends win their basketball game with the help of their coach, it was at their celebration party when coach said the inspirational line above. 30 years after, each living their own separate lives, they learned that their loved coach has passed away. together with their own families, they were reunited together at the coach's funeral. watch out for the funny comments they exchange as they saw one another. i also laugh hard at Rob Schneider's Ave Maria song. Lenny (Adam Sandler) rent a lake house in which they all spend the 4th of July together. There starts the chaos and fun of five families living under one roof, reminiscing the bond of good old friends, and spending quality time with their own families.

my take on the film: a wacky, laugh out riot when you combine an all star comedy actors which includes Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider, that gives life to each individual characters that they portray. not only that it tickles your funny bone, this film also has moral values and i must say that its family oriented as well. i do love how this film bring on the concept of how kids of today's generation are into computers and technology that they forgot how to have fun just like the good old times.

this is a must see movie for those who doesn't remember how their laugh sounds. i would promise you that you'll enjoy this film with all the funny puchlines, great actors and cool relaxing setting.  have fun!

The Last Airbender

in a divided world where the fire nation is at war against the earth kingdom, water tribes and air nomads; a young boy is set to find his path to become the avatar (narrated in a deep voice with sound effects at the end of the sentence). what a nice opening spiel for this movie.hehehe.. just watched The Last Airbender and here's my review on it.

the movie plot. narrated by a water bender, katara who lives in the southern water tribe, it started on how they free aang, an airbender, and the gigantic out of this world creature as well as the name so i forgot what it is. zuko, the prince of the fire nation saw the sign of how they unfreeze aang from a frozen iceberg and immediately went to the water tribe with his soldiers. there they find aang and take him with them. on zuko's ship, they discovered that aang is the last airbender and the avatar, the one that can bend all elements. they want to keep aang because zuko is being exiled by his father unless he finds the avatar. with this, aang escapes and was also rescued by katara and his brother whom have been told by their grandmother that aang maybe the avatar. since aang only knows how to bend air, he must train to bend the other elements: water, earth and fire. this started their journey to the northern water tribe to seek help. do watch the film for the complete story, don't want to be a spoiler :D

the film was based on the hit animated tv series 'avatar: the last airbender'. i just watched one episode of it and that really is a good cartoon series. my loss since i did not find time to watch all the episodes. with regard to the special effects, hollywood film never fails to amaze me. you'll find awesome effects on this film specially when they bend the water, fire and soil. fight scenes are also good. there are a lot of martial arts and those taichi-yoga stuff (dunno how to call it) that you'll see on parks where an elderly sways his arms and do awkward positions. loved the stop-slowmo-play-freeze motion of aang during the battle on the northern water tribe.

i did heard some bad reviews on this film and some of my friends who watched it did not like it either. it was not that bad though its not that good as well. what i look at it is that its a children's movie and not for young adults or literally adults. i think they are expecting more from this film which the movie fails to give because for me, this movie turns out to be just for kids; a simple story, young actors, cuddly gigantic out of this world creatures, no gory fight scenes, etc. as the animated series is for kids, then this film is also for kids. enjoy :)

TOY STORY 3

puyat sa movie marathon.. a movie about toys, as what the title implies. sabi nila nakakaiyak itong film na 'to so i was eager to watch it kung iiyak din ba ako. backtrack muna tayo sa una at pangalawang film dahil hindi mabubuo ng 3 kung wala ang 1 at 2.

Buzz Lightyear was first introduced as an addition to Andy's toys in Toy Story 1. His presence is taken as a threat by Woody (a cowboy toy) on who will be the favorite toy of them all because Buzz is more equiped with action features rather than him being a plain old doll. tama ba ang pagkakarecall ko? wala kasi akong matandaan sa unang film. panoorin ninyo na lang ulet kasi papanoorin ko na lang din :D

the sequel, Toy Story 2, is about how Woody was saved from a doll collector who wants to sell him and be put in a museum. Buzz, together with the other toys, went on an adventure filled with fun in rescuing their friend. Jessie, a cowgirl toy, is introduced in this film. i would say that the sequel is better than the first one kasi naman hindi ko na matandaan un story nun first film unlike the second one where i could remember some funny scenes.

Toy Story 1 was shown on 1995 while the sequel was on 1999. siguro isa yun sa dahilan kung bakit nakalimutan ko agad yung first film dahil 3 years after nasundan. Toy Story 3 was made this year and with today's technology, i must say that the animation is far better than the others.

on with the movie plot: in Toy Story 3, Andy is going to college and needs to decide what to do with his old toys, either to dump them or be stocked in the attic.
          (place movie plot here)

.....tinamad nanaman magkwento, puyat kasi ako, excuses, hehehe.. basta panoorin nyo na lang to know what happened and to be entertained as well dahil they never forget to put in a good humor that will keep you laughing as what the first and the sequel does.

lesson learned: learned to let go and moved on. watched out for the last scene of the film dahil heart-warming nga talaga. hindi naman din kasi madaling bitawan ang mga bagay na napalapit na sayo, kahit simpleng bagay na naging parte ng buhay mo. kung ganun na lang ang feelings ng mga toys, what more pa kaya kung taong mahal mo ang nawala. (Shift + End + Delete) kailangan burahin dahil umaatake ang pagging emo.

my take on this film: a movie to watch with your kids, dahil animated film ito at magugustuhan ng mga kids kasi nga tungkol sa mga toys. but its for the young at heart din so pasok pa din ako dito. seriously, i like the storyline, on the way the movie progress. plus it never failes to tickle my funny bone. recommended for someone who doesn't let go. enjoy and have a good laugh at the movie house :D

Killers

puyat sa movie marathon.. another movie review on a recent film that i watched, wag nyo ng tanungin kung saan basta kakapanood ko lang nito.

the KILLERS is about an agent who settles down when he met his love in the romatic setting of France. ang cheesy nung line na 'yun kasi naman romatic film pala ito na hinaluan ng action at konting comedy. tuloy sa movie plot: after 3 years of a normal married life, Spencer (Ashton Kutcher) was contacted by his old boss but did not want to become an assassin again and ruin his normal married life with Jen (Katherine Heigl) who doesn't even know that his old work. this started the plot to hunt down and kill Spencer by the Killers (queue the fight scenes with Spencer's workmates, neighbors and people that they know) and eventually exposing his real job to Jen and ending up the film with a revelation of whoever wants Spencer dead and the real truth on their lives.
...and they lived happily ever after :)

my take on this film, 7.5 out of 10 because the whole movie itself is quite good. it does have an easy and simple storyline, hindi sobrang complicated ang takbo ng movie. a good choice of background music (loved the 'just say yes' soundtrack). i known ashton thru comedy films and this one is not entirely a comedy film, pede din pala siya sa serious roles. katherine hiegl still is the sweetest thing, pa-tweetums kasi ang role nya dito just like '27 dresses'. so, sa mga stressed at gustong marelax, pede na sa inyo 'tong movie. very light lang din kasi ang fight scenes at walang bloodshed or violence na makakadagdag sa stressful mong utak, hehe..Enjoy!

ECLIPSE: the twilight saga

Just recently watched "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" last weekend and i must say that its another teen flick. I may not be a twilight fanatic but i did enjoy some of the scenes in this film.

a lil' bit of history

The first movie was "Twilight" in which I was eager to watch because of the movie's trailer and that I am into the horror and suspense genre. At the end of the movie, I didn't really liked it because it does not meet my expectation. I was hoping for blood and those vampire stuff but the movie focuses on the romance between Edward and Bella making it a romantic film rather that those horror/suspense. Later did i know that its a fil, adaptation of a book with the same title by Stephanie Meyer which really focuses on the lovestory of the two main casts. The movie is about how the two lovebirds get to know each other and fall in love though their indifferences.

The second installment was "New Moon". as expected, another romatic teen flick. It was more entertaining in the book than the movie as what my sister says for she did not enjoyed the film and quoted that some important scenes did not make it to the film.

the third installment

The Eclipse's plot revolves around a revengeful vampire that is setting up a soldier of new born vampires to kill the Bella and the Cullens. Mortal enemies, the Cullens and Jacob's pack, formed an alliance to protect Bella. Another interesting part of this movie is the love triangle between Edward, Bella and the persistent Jacob. Its comical on how Jacob still insist his undying love for Bella eventhough she already choose Edward.
The "I'm hotter than you" Jacob line makes the movie house filled with laughs. Its the scene where they camp out for safety on a cold mountain making it look like 'Brokeback Mountain' set-up.
The morning after, the setting looks like a scene from Narnia, a snow covered mountain with a big bad wolf :D
"Bella's a bitch!" a convicting shout heard on the movie house when Bella kissed Jacob at that Narnia setting eventhough she's engaged with Edward :D

My take on this movie, "Not another teen flick". I'm sure that teenagers in love, out-of-love, hoping for love, and other phrase that has the word love, will surely like this film and will even more be bitten by the Twilight craze. If you're into cheesy pick-up lines, romatic candlelight dinner, and long walks on the beach, then this is the movie suited for you. Enjoy cuddling up with your movie seatmate.

IRON MAN 2

Puyat sa kakapanood ng movie..
April 30, unang showing day ng "Iron man 2" sa mga sinehan dito sa pinas kaya minarapat namin panoorin ito agad dahil isa ito sa pinakaabangang movie ko. As usual, puno nanaman ang malls dahil natapat pa ito sa Friday at payday pa. Talaga namang pinipilahan ang iron man.

The movie started with how Iron man bought peace worldwide making him popular and is proven when Tony Stark opens the Stark Expo, ang scene kung saan parang noontime show na may nagsasayawang babae. The US government wants the iron man suit for their own military use but Tony refuses having his rival Justin Hammer (who tries on recreating an iron man suit but fails) being humiliated on a Senate hearing. The arc reactor that Tony use to keep his heart beating is poisoning him due to its palladium content. Having done everything he could, Tony can't find a replacement and it slowly kills him. With that in mind, he made Pepper Potts the CEO of Stark Industries. This results in hiring Natalie Rushman who is played by Scarlett Johansson (kailangan ko siyang banggitin dahil ang ganda niya mula pa nun The Island). In a car race in Monaco, Tony came face-to-face with Ivan Vanko who created his own reactor improved with an electrical whip that cuts everything like a laser (astig! I also want one) but he was of course, defeated by iron man. Ivan is the son of Anton Vanko who collaborated with Tony's father, Howard Stark in designing the first arc reactor. With this incident, Hammer helps Vanko escape from prison so that he can create his own drones with Vanko's help but on one condition, "I want my burd!" as Ivan said referring to his pet bird in Russia.
And the movie continues on, ayoko na magkuwento, panoorin nyo na lang sa sine.

This sequel was even better than the first! Sobrang nagustuhan ko talaga at gusto ko pang ulitin on 3D, regular movie lang kasi yung pinanood namin and I think its better viewed on 3D. I really like the car race scene where Vanko slashed the racing cars, galing ng effects. And also the scene where Iron Man and War Machine are fighting the drones controlled by Vanko. Its pack with amazing fight scenes including Scarlett's moves as she disarmed guards and knocked them out in Hammer's facility, ang ganda niya talaga with that black tight-fitting suit (*drools*). The movie lasts for 2 hours pero hindi ko namalayan na ganoon pala kahaba ito dahil nabitin pa ako. In short, nag-enjoy akong kakapanood na hindi namalayan ang oras. It really is a fun movie because of the humors lalo na kapag si Robert Downey Jr. ang nagbitiw, tipong seryoso pero nagpapatawa na pala. Magaling din ang pagkakaportray ni Mickey Rourke as the villain na parang hippie-rockstar dahil sa buhok na me highlights at pulubi dahil sa maduming kuko. Don Cheadle replaces Terrence Howard from the first film as James Rhodes. I would say that its better to put Terrence back, not that I'm not impressed on how Cheadle acts but the role fits Terrence perfectly than Cheadle. At the end, sulit naman ang binayad mo sa ticket at uuwi kang nakasmile :)

My take on this: overall, the movie was great and it surpassed the first one. Kudos to IRON MAN 2! Two thumbs up!

a day of Titans and weird-named-gods...

It was almost the end of my shift where my friends and I decided to do something for the weekend. Even if its still a Black Saturday, working people need time to relax and chill from a week long work. Yes, I am still working even on a holiday which is one of the benefits of my very rewarding work. Also, malls are now opened since they closed out for the Holy Week. Nice. :)

Its the first showing day of the CLASH OF THE TITANS movie in the Philippines. We therefore agreed to watch that film since we heard that is one of the "movies to watched for". We then proceed to Eastwood Mall Libis, just a few steps away from our office, to buy tickets but the 3pm slot were already sold-out so we end up watching the 3:50pm slot.

On with the movie. Clash of the Titans is about Perseus' life and his adventures in finding ways on how he can defeat the Kraken. Perseus was played by Sam Worthington who is also the lead actor in the movie Avatar. The movie started with a brief introduction on how the Olympians came to be the most powerful gods. Then begins on how the baby Perseus was saved by a fisherman and how he was raised as a simple son of a fisherman. Years later, when Perseus' family went fishing, they saw a group of soldiers destroying a gigantic Zeus statue. This means that the humans are declaring war to the gods because they think that they are more powerful than the gods and is tired of praising them. Hades, the god of the underworld, kills most of those soldiers and destroyed the boat where Perseus and his family were, resulting to the death of Perseus' family. This event made Perseus wanting to avenge his family and kill Hades. The surviving soldiers found Perseus and they bought him back with them to Argos. This starts the journey of Perseus and in seeking revenge for his family and eventually, finding out who he really is. End of my plot, you have to watch the movie to know what happens next and how he defeats Hades' creature, the Kraken.

NOTE: Movie poster taken from wikipedia(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clash_of_the_Titans_(2010_film)

My take on the movie, over-all it was good but not that great because I am expecting more from the film. I'm not sure what it is I'm really looking for but there isn't no such impact on me after seeing the movie. Same goes with my friends whom I watched the movie with, they also find the film not that amusing. Knowing Zeus and the other Gods again made me think of my high school Mythology class where we need to memorize those weird names of gods who married with another weird name and whose sons and daughters also has weird names, sometimes longer weird names. The movie was a remake of the 1981 film of the same name, as what I had researched (yes, I did some research on this to remind me of the story and those weird god names). I haven't seen that 1981 film, I wasn't even born on that year, so I really don't know the difference between the two and their story lines.

The Clash of the Titans' story is somewhat similar with the Percy Jackson movie, an adventure filled journey into a world on creatures and monster that the lead actor needs to fight with. The special effects, costumes and designs are great, as expected in Hollywood movies, as well as the fight scenes. The movie really showed how the ancient times looks like and the scenery are very very nice and appealing to the eyes, specially the city of Argos and the place where the gigantic Zeus statue stands. For me, I would rate this movie 8 out of 10 and will recommend it to other movie goers who wants action, adventure and weird-named-Gods. Note that this is just my opinion, just watch the movie and see for yourself. Enjoy!
